Wellness Exams
Each animal that comes to a VeTouch clinic will receive a thorough physical examination by a veterinary student. This is done to ensure that pets are healthy enough to vaccinate or to address any health concerns clients may have about their animal. Aspects of the physical examination include listening to the heart and lungs, feeling the abdomen for any abnormal masses, checking the skin for parasites, and looking at the face to assess things like eye and dental health.
Vaccines
- Canine Rabies
- Feline Rabies
- Canine Distemper and Parvovirus Vaccine (DHPP)
- Feline Distemper (FVRCP)
Heartworm Testing
All dogs over the age of 1 year will receive a heartworm test, which consists of a simple blood draw and in-house 10 minute test. Heartworm is a parasite transmitted by mosquitoes that can cause a fatal infection of the cardiovascular system. It is recommended to test all dogs annually, and to keep dogs on a heartworm preventative to prevent transmission of the parasite from mosquitoes.
Heartworm and Flea/Tick Preventatives
At VeTouch, it is our goal to send all dogs home with a 3 month supply of heartworm preventative and flea and tick preventative. This amount may vary based on our supply. The specific medication will vary based on supply and animal needs, but commonly we use medications such as Heartgard, Iverhard, Frontline, NexGard, or Advantix.
We can also provide written prescriptions for clients to purchase more preventative from a pharmacy of their choice (Walmart, Costco, etc.).
